A lot of platforms in the local-services space make their money by sitting between the professional and the client financially — a booking fee here, a payment-processing cut there, sometimes a flat commission on every job that runs through the app. GigsDex deliberately doesn't do any of that, and it's worth explaining the reasoning rather than just stating the policy.
GigsDex is a discovery and reputation platform, first and foremost. Its job is to help a verified professional get found by someone nearby who needs their specific trade, and to give that professional a place to build a public track record through portfolio photos, reviews, and profile completeness. You can go further than a simple phone call — in-app Bookings let a client request a specific appointment slot, and Job Posts let a client describe a task and receive applications from interested professionals — but even at that point, there's no in-app payment processing and no escrow. When a client taps "Call Now" or "WhatsApp" on a profile, they leave the app entirely and speak directly to the professional, the same way they would if a neighbour had simply handed over the number.
Whatever gets agreed between a professional and a client — the price, the payment schedule, whether it's cash, UPI, or a bank transfer, the timeline for the work — is entirely between the two of them. GigsDex never takes a percentage of that agreement, because the agreement itself never passes through GigsDex's systems. A professional who lands a ₹15,000 kitchen rewiring job through the app keeps every rupee of it. There's no invoice GigsDex generates, no payout GigsDex processes, and therefore no cut to take. This also means a professional's pricing decisions — how they price a home visit versus a job at their own workshop, how they handle repeat clients, whether they offer a discount for a larger scope of work — stay entirely in their own hands.
It also means GigsDex isn't the one setting prices, promising outcomes, or acting as a middleman in a dispute over money. Our Terms of Service are direct about this: GigsDex facilitates discovery and communication, and the work agreement — including price, scope, and payment — happens directly between the client and the professional. That's a meaningfully different relationship than a platform that processes your payment and takes a cut, because it means GigsDex has no financial incentive to push you toward a more expensive professional, a longer job, or a specific outcome. What GigsDex does take seriously is who gets to be listed on the platform in the first place, which is the entire point of the identity verification process described elsewhere on this blog.
This model isn't free of trade-offs. Without in-app payments, there's no automated payment protection or dispute-resolution mechanism the way a marketplace with escrow might offer — if a disagreement over money comes up, it's between the client and the professional to resolve directly, the same as it would be with any independently hired tradesperson. What GigsDex does provide instead is a verified identity to start from, a public review history that both sides can be held to, and — for anyone who wants a documented arrangement — the option to use in-app Bookings and Job Posts to keep a record of what was agreed and when.
